Ask HN: What are your prefered tools \ workflow for internet research?

12 points by infominer 5 years ago

I'm working on a collaborative curation project, and trying to jump-start an internet-research \ collaborative curation branch of the open-source movement.

I'm sure there are others working on similar ideas, but I haven't found them, or not many.

My preferred method is to use discord servers as something of a social-cms (with some help from https://github.com/Tyrrrz/DiscordChatExporter/ )...

I use the share button integration on my phone to share links to the appropriate channel of a server (even better when on desktop w ctrl+k)

I have a few discord servers for different topics I'm studying, and even multiple servers with hundreds of channels breaking down various aspects of one large subject.

Rather than trying to get people engaged with this platform who don't use it, I'd rather tap into their existing research workflows

I know some people like to organize information in:

-Awesome Lists -Excel \ Google Sheets -Wikis -Hackmd.io -various note apps.....

would love to hear about how you do internet research, especially if you like to work with big topics, or deep within your chosen niche.
