This is called sortition and would probably work okay. I’d prefer a system where we vote for every person who seems good enough and then randomly select from them.
Interesting. Isn’t there a selection bias on the level of which pictures, of which restaurant, of which food by what type of people are actually taken and shared… I think this might skew what we see, away from an unbiased random selection of food impressions from the entire menu from each of all the (web-listed) restaurants, even with a perfect random selection of available images?
I love this account. Seeing photos from restaurants around the world is such a wonderful glimpse into other cultures. It makes the world feel smaller and more intimate somehow.

My hobby is promoting random selection of things where other heuristics fail.
People cannot decide what to eat? Let's throw a dice, suddenly they know what they don't want to eat.
Your elections seem to bring only corrupt elites to power? Randomly select citizens to govern.
If random choice seems better than your current system of selection, why not just go for it?

I do really like the idea of a randomly selected "second house"

Wilderness with randomness? Animals at each encounter flip a coin to decide who eats and who is eaten ?

I like this idea... just like jury are selected...

I'm struck by how many of the pictures of food show (a) fried chicken and (b) fries.
Props to the Somalian place that just has coffee and popcorn though!
One place only shows people. I guess it’s a humanitarian* place.
*If vegetarians eat vegetables what do humanitarians eat?
That’s because the best restaurants serve fried chicken and fries, and fried chicken and fries is the best thing on their menus.
And both foods are not a hot dog!

It is random but not a uniform distribution.
Those are two foods that never get old for me, though I prefer my fried chicken spicy and my fries salty.

For me this makes the world feel so much bigger! It lets me step out of my tiny world that I am familiar with and realize the vastness of the world.
At first I thought this was going to be an AI that generates random restaurants.
Possibly stretching current technology :) but one that generated random menus would be fun.
XKCD proposed using genetic algorithms to make recipes: https://xkcd.com/720/
Google used AI to make chocolate-chip cookies (they then served them in the company cafeterias): https://www.blog.google/technology/research/makings-smart-co...
Please please someone make this
Oh that's a great idea.
