I'm not sure the author is right about Apple iOS/Android never being replaced on phones. For the near future probably not, and stuff can be "Ship of Theseus"'d for quite a while for the mid future, but for the far future phones of some type (land line (packet or line switched), cell/mesh/tower, satellite, possibly other) would probably be in near universal demand and would hopefully even be re-constructed after a potential civilization collapse. Even lots of land-line (really VOIP or similar now though) and satellite phones don't use either iOS or Android already, and you can use plain Linux to make calls if you have an old laptop with a phone jack as well for example.

A Steve Jobs might iterate beyond the point where the iPhone disappears which was one vision of the future presented at the 2005 IEEE gathering on Wearable computing, two years before the iPhone debut. A Witch/Wizard's multifunction extendable wand for handset, tablet ipad pen, camera on a stick, remote controller; screen display on the AR facemask for facetime, Messages; tablet ipad with HTC style slideout keyboard and origami style unpack K-shape scaffolding which is height adjustable for long duration posture correct desktop use.
