It's really kinda too bad we don't have any sort of alternative funding model for a project of this scale, something like the Manhattan Project but not so defense-oriented and nationalist.
I wouldn't want the government to directly control and censor a model like this, but it would be cool if everyday people could (for example) just crowdfund $100 a person and have all this training in the public domain. That's 700 million people a year in order to reach their $7B/yr spend, though... not gonna happen.
Just proving it really is a non-profit organization.
An OpenAI bankrupcy would be great for society. They pushed the innovation and that's great but we don't need another letter in an acronym of tech overlords.
No, plenty of investors still willing to gamble on them. Saudis love a stupid Silicon Valley investment, for example.
We can only hope so.
