Just Ask for guidance. but my stripe account was closed
As I mentioned, I'm just asking for guidance and direction. I have a lot of opinions, but before I start an application, I want to ask how Stripe is going to help and work with my business. I’ve read everything, especially the restricted list, and they didn’t mention restricting merchants of record. We are just a merchant of record. I asked how they plan to work with this application, and they requested a description. The email came from accounts@stripe.com Then I explained my business model, mentioning that I understand Stripe's terms of service and policies. I also stated that if there are any issues, they should let me know, and I'm willing to correct them since I'm just starting out. But they did something like this
"your Stripe account on October 13, 2024. Until then, you can continue processing payments normally"
Of course, I can process, but how can I if I've never submitted any application yet? I'm just gathering information and checking if it's suitable for my company.
Okay, now back to my business. Why do I want to create an alternative? Because I want to support countries that Paddle.com and LemonSqueezy don’t cover. I can't ignore those users (Are those countries in Stripe's list? Yes.), and I also want to offer more features. Essentially, it's about creating an alternative.
Now my question is: why can't I use Stripe for this? I know and have proof that Paddle and LemonSqueezy used Stripe Connect a year ago. We have noticed that Paddle was making requests to Stripe's servers by inspecting the elements. So, I know they use Stripe Connect, but why can't I?
I asked for the process and guidance; I didn’t expect my account to be closed without submitting an actual application.
What’s the point of this ? I want to know how Paddle and LemonSqueezy did this, and why I can’t
But my question still remains....
We see those so often we wrote a post about this back in 2018. Sadly still relevant today. https://paykings.com/blog/when-stripe-drops-your-high-risk-m...
Sorry to hear about your experience. Unfortunately, this is far to common with Stripe. Stripe shut down my previous SaaS without warning or explanation. It was almost a death sentence for my business.
I built OpenPay (getopenpay.com) so you can flexibly move from Stripe to another payment processor without losing a cent of revenue. Happy to get you set up, and help you migrate from Stripe. Feel free to reach out to me at lance [at] getopenpay.com and I can hop on a call with you today to help you get migrated
We've helped dozens of people in your position. We can help you quickly transition the code you've written (our API is basically the same) and get your subscriptions up and running again
Sad, how HN has become Stripe escalation forum!
