Many countries will allow you a second or even third passport, so you can still travel while visa are being processed.

    India sadly does not:

    > 13. Issue of additional passport or travel document in special circumstances. A person holding a passport or travel document shall not be entitled to another passport or travel 'document unless he surrenders to the passport authority the passport or travel document already held by him.

Oof, that's tough. I'm over here on a blue card, and I found that the initial application and dealing with department of immigration was actually really streamlined. Everything is very manual and personal over here, but there are a large number of public servants that are very welcoming and happy to help out.

> If I applied for the Luxembourg visa before my trip, I would run the risk of not getting my passport back in time

Certainly in 2025 we can collectively come up with a better solution, where passports could be granted permissions electronically and the actual document would act only as international identification.

I work in big tech in the US. In my usual daily life, I get to meet extremely intelligent and successful people from India. Ex-founders, Executives, engineers that have built large parts of the software we take for granted - each and every one of them maintains that every time they have to apply for a visa as an Indian passport holder, it's an absolutely humbling experience.

This is the burden we carry.
