Tell HN: Opt-out of LinkedIn training content creation AI models

11 points by lukax 2 days ago

LinkedIn will use data from their users for training content creation AI models.

Not sure if anyone or just European users can opt-out.

The settings link from their email causes login loop. Direct link works. Not sure if on purpose. That would be evil.

> Starting on November 3, 2025, we’ll also use data from members in your region to improve the content-generating AI that enhances your experience and better connects our members to opportunities. This can help hirers find and reach you more easily, and assist members in creating content such as profile updates, messages, and posts. This could include data like details from your profile and public content you create on LinkedIn; it does not include your private messages. You can opt out anytime in your settings if you’d prefer not to have your data used in this way. If you’ve already submitted the Data Processing Objection Form, please check your settings to make sure your choice to opt out is shown.

I don't know if I should opt out or not. The "yes" is quite obvious- why should I give Microsoft my thoughts, time and writings for free? on the other hand we can't ignore the fact the AI is becoming the new search engine, and being included is a way to show up on "search results"

I also got the email. I am surprised that I was automatically opted in, but then again, it's Microsoft. I wouldn't leave my drink unattended around their employees.

It's LinkedIn so I wouldn't be surprised if opting out did nothing

The setting was there for me in the US and I opted out.

I also opted out of a ton of other stuff, including their 16 ways of ad targeting. That must have been new since the last time I looked in the settings (I don’t use LinkedIn much).

It seems that I had already opted out, but I turned some off extra nags and unwanted features in settings also while I was checking. I am trying to signal to the marketing droids that each attempt to add drivel like this reduces engagement of a slice of their users.
