I'd be very surprised if this ever gets fixed. I think it's more likely that people just increasingly communicate through different channels as our "phones" become less and less useful as phones. The only people that I regularly talk to on the phone are my parents. Almost every inbound call I receive is spam, but they all get auto-screened and blocked. If you call me and you're not in my phone, I will not pick up. You can leave a message w/ the AI (and then I probably still won't pick up).

It has been fixed in Australia. I used to get a lot of spam phone calls and SMS's. Now, almost none. If it can't be fixed in the USA, it isn't because of the reasons you give.

I didn't give any reasons it can't be fixed. Of course it can be fixed. I just don't really expect them to fix it. It's been decades and they still can't get it done.

"Nothing says 'Making America Great Again' quite like making it statistically impossible to answer your own phone. At least US is #1 at something!"

I’m no trump apologist but this was happening long before he was in office. He should have declared war on the scammers instead of the cartels. Heck, I’d take in addition to at this point.

Donald Trump signed in the TRACED Act in 2019, mandating usage of the STIR/SHAKEN protocol to require accurate caller ID records and KYC requirements on VOIP providers.

A whole bunch of VOIP providers disappeared after this went into effect.
