Ask HN: Advice on Solo Launching

6 points by acaciabengo 3 days ago

I have built a pipeline that takes construction documents as PDFs, extracts out the floor plans.

It extracts out BIM data from the plans at pixel accuracy producing data on walls, floors, windows and doors accurately.

It also generates 3D impressions and a brief 10s 3D video of the floor plans.

I have had multiple discussion to build within a company already solving the same problem but not closed a deal yet and considering taking it to the market as a solo founder.

I am outside the UK and USA and was seeking a founder for market access and future fundraising.

What is the best advice on how to go to market as a sole founder?

Hangout on forums where your ICP is discussing their problems and pain points - reddit, twitter, slack/discord/whatsapp groups, etc are good channels to explore

Don't pitch your product directly on such forums - help people out by solving their problems and sharing your experiences

Do this consistently and you'll have a gtm engine setup to acquire your early users

You already have a working product. That's more than most people ever get to. Stop asking for advice and go sell it. Email 10 companies today. You'll learn more from 10 rejections than from any book or forum thread. The best GTM strategy for a solo founder is volume and speed, not optimization.

Do b2b sales 1) identify best architectural/construction firms near you

2) buy donuts/other bribes and give it to them for free to raise brand awareness

3)send them an email or call them

4)close like 5-10% of deals

5) listen to feedback and iterate your product and sales motion

check the book Traction of Gabriel Weinberg. brainstorm 5-6 channel experiments and test them fast (e.g. sales, content marketing, seo), preferably within 2 weeks.

Keep testing new hypotheses until you find 1-2 channels that work best, and then completely double down on these channels.

just a heads up, for your first 5-10 clients try to focus on warm leads, its much easier than going cold

good luck
