They've been doing it in 5 year Plans (tm) for decades now. You guys need to stop coming to in the middle of the episode and start chittering.
Yeah, it's a weird comment you see repeated too often that must be serving some agenda, but I don't know what. China's already moving towards chip independence as fast as they can. Nothing the rest of the world does or doesn't do will change that.
I think this would be a bad move because it would force China to move more quickly and further utilize their own technology.
It is hard to justify using inferior domestic technology when perfectly good, proven ASML tech is available.
