You ever get that email from LinkedIn suggesting People You May Know? I built that with no engineering support. Everything from infrastructure, design, business logic, ETL (Hadoop->RDBMS->ESP), code to scaling.
The first time we launched it the resulting traffic crashed the site (user auth service couldn't handle the additional load), today it generates 10%+ MAU.
